Book of the Month

Firelight by Kristen Callihan February 2012 Book of the Month

What GT reviewer Becky had to say about Firelight…

Set in the 1880′s, this book was a cross between a paranormal and historical romance and a murder mystery all rolled into one.  I loved the mix of Lord Archer and Miranda’s not quite human qualities with that old time feel.  The chemistry between Lord Archer and Miranda was amazing.   Certainly a “Beauty and the Beast” feel to it.  The suspense kept me glued to the book. Just when I thought I had things figured out the author took me for a loop.  I  think anyone who loves historical romance or mystery novels would love this book as well.

An amazing debut for Kristen Callihan.  Definitely a new author to watch. I can’t wait for the next book in the series!

Readers Choice Awards

From GT’s review of Bound by the Vampire Queen…

In Bound By the Vampire Queen, we get a much-needed reprieve from the ever-present vicious vampire political games and are treated to a whimsical trek through the Fae home world… where vampires are the rabble and Jacob must once again wear the mantle of true servant to Lyssa.  The descriptions of the Fae world are vibrant and imaginative, reminicent of the various fantasy tales and works of art in our own history. Lyssa and Jacob’s escapades in the Fae kingdom are like an erotic fairy tale (literally!) with castles of fire and ice, fantastical creatures, and creative nature-inspired bondage only an author as skilled as Ms. Hill could make appealing and arousing.

I do my share of bookmarking in these books (probably more than any other series, period), but the first read through never fails to be an adventure, sometimes harrowing and emotionally charged, but always satisfying and enjoyable in the end. This eighth offering in the series brings some needed emotional closure, old friends revisited, and a bittersweet mid-story twist that will have you gasping in disbelief. Nothing is ever predictable in Ms. Hill’s vampire world, and I wouldn’t have it any other way.

The devil really is in the details…

In one of GT’s most popular guest posts ever, Debra Anastasia gave us a taste of her bad boy anti-hero Satan Jack in her unique and creative interview-style guest post with him.  After harassing his author and threatening to toss out her computer if she doesn’t write him well, he stopped in and flirted shamelessly with GT’s readers.  Over 60 total comments made up an entertaining look into just what makes Satan Jack tick, and I for one can’t wait to read more about him in Crushed Seraphim and the upcoming sequel.  Go here to read Debra’s interview with Jack and all of his sexy responses to the commenters!

More about Debra…

Debra grew up in New York and got a bachelor’s degree in political science at SUNY New Paltz. At the start of her marriage, she moved to southern Maryland with her husband. She still doesn’t trust crabs and all their legs, though everyone else in her family thinks they’re delicious. Her favorite hobbies include knitting, painting furniture and wall murals, and slapping clowns.

Earlier this year Omnific Publishing published her debut novel, Crushed Seraphim, and she’s currently pounding out the sequel to angel Emma’s adventures.

How do we choose the winners?

I’m sure you’re wondering how we make these decisions.  Here’s the skinny…

For Reviewer Top Pick (formerly Reviewer’s Choice), each GT reviewer that posted a review for the selection month gets a number of votes equalling their total reviews posted for that month.  They can spend those votes, in whatever split or block they want, on any book that earned a 4.0/5 or higher rating in its GT review.  The book(s) with a combination of the highest vote total and the highest number of reviewers who voted for it wins the honor and gets the nifty little silver ribbon on its book cover across our site.

For Book of the Month, the selection is a little more complicated and it is chosen solely by me.  As Executive Editor of the site, I take several factors into consideration, but most importantly, the book must have a minimum 4.5/5 rating and its review (if I haven’t personally read it) or story (if I have read it myself) needs to be memorable and have impact.  It’s largely based on “gut” feeling, so it’s hard to spell out the specific metric for you guys, but basically it’s an informed subjective decision that I make each month, and I don’t take that lightly.

Finally, the Readers Choice awards for Favorite Author and Favorite Story are chosen by you guys every month in our end-of-month public voting!  Thanks to everyone who participated this month and help spread the word to support your favorite authors and books!

Where can I get those cover badges for my site?

Want to display our awards on your site?  Whether you’re an author, publisher, fellow blogger, or enthusiastic reader, we’d be honored for you to share the GraveTells awards in your sidebar, post, or homepage!  Right-click the images above to save them locally and upload them to your own server, or you can link directly to them by right-clicking and selecting “copy image URL”.  If you need a specific type of image or more instructions, email me and I’d be happy to help!  =)
