Giveaway (Us/Int): Jean Murray chats about dark Horror Romance… will it stick?
No Bones About It…
As an author, I’m always fascinated watching the evolution of the paranormal genre. Vampires continue to draw a crowd, despite those naysayers that boast they’re yesterday’s news. One thing I do agree with is that they are evolving along with the genre. Young adult has exploded onto the scene in various paranormal forms, challenging the traditional traits. For adults, there has been a shift to darker topics. Zombies, demons… Would you’ve ever guess there would be such a thing as Horror Romance?
The trends in publications are not much different from what we see on TV. Popular shows, such as in The Walking Dead, True Blood, and The River, come to mind. Dark paranormal and horror have made it to prime time. If only the producers would make a movie or series based on three sisters, a key, a curse, and gods of the underworld I would be one happy woman (all wishful thinking on this author’s part ). **sighing**
But truly, I’m anxious to see where this world of dark themed romance is heading. What will readers want in the next two, five or even seven years? How will the romance community change and grow with the likes and desires of its readers?
On a personal note, I love to read and write dark paranormal romance with a touch an urban fantasy mixed in. It gives me the action and adventure of urban fantasy and the supernatural love story that I adore. I want the roller coaster ride of emotion and sometimes the only way to get there is to take the characters to a very dark place. With everything stripped away I can see or create a side to their soul that is begging to be saved. Some of my favorite authors- JR Ward, Lara Adrian, Kresley Cole, Larissa Ione. I love their work.
So, I pose the questions…
What do you think of the evolution of the paranormal genre?
Do you think Horror romance will make it?
And, what would you like to see?
