Reviewer recap: Sela Sullivan had a high school crush on her best friend's brother, but after a humiliating experience with him at a kissing booth, she hasn't talked to him in years. Luke Watters led a charmed life growing up in the little town of Cascade, Oregon and escaped to a life of danger and adventure where he proved himself a professional success as a sports photographer. With Luke back in town for the wedding, paired with Sela as Best Man to her Maid Of Honor, Sela will have to face her biggest humiliation, and the man who ruined her for every other boy in high school and still holds a little piece of her heart. Luke will have to decide if his old crush on Sela and growing new attraction to her is worth maybe having to give up his career and fight his best friend for.

Positives

Steamy chemistry, charming characters, & a fun romance!

Negatives

Not a whole lot! Would have liked an open-door love scene.

Bottom Line

Kissing the Maid of Honor is a sweet romance with energy and heart. You’ll feel the characters’ emotions right along with them, through every little self doubt and soaring joy. This story has passionate romance without the sordid details. If you prefer your contemporary romance with closed door love scenes and open, honest emotions, this is the story for you!

~ This review is spoiler-free! Read on with confidence! ~

The connection between Luke and sela is on slow simmer, building naturally throughout the story from a base of mutual attraction and shared history. I love that Luke is a sports photographer and that Sela writes an anonymous advice column. Wedding stories are fun because of all the festivities and atmosphere of excitement, and Kissing the Maid of Honor has that in spades…. complete with a worried, fluttering bride!

Luke has a big soft heart and magnetic personality and Sela is sensitive, caring, and sweet. They are adorably cute together with all their teasing banter. This story is a refreshing, invigorating revitalization of life, taking me away to the coast, where wedding fever fills the air and happily ever after is a guaranteed thing.  All the characters are loveable, especially Luke and Sela, and I’d be delighted to see this turned into a series to focus on some of the others.

Memorable Quotes

Let this man upstairs and put that smart mouth to work! *grin*

“Hey, it’s Luke. I’ve got a special delivery.” She didn’t know he was coming and he hoped that enticed her to let him up even if she was busy.
“Luke who?”
He smiled like a damn teenager. “Luke, omigod, Luke, don’t stop, Luke. Ring a bell?”

Seriously, what is it with men and bacon?

“Ditch the marshmallow,” he said, handing the paper to Erin.
“What?” Erin examined the recipe like she’d missed something very important.
“Add bacon instead.” A wry smile took hold of his mouth and he twisted his torso, his arms up, elbows out. The movement pulled his shirt tight across his chest and back, and defined muscles introduced themselves. Sela’s mouth went dry. New tingles erupted, this time in places they had no business being. She couldn’t pull her gaze away.
He cleared his throat.
She plucked the recipe out of Erin’s hands. “Since when do you know anything about baking?” She reread the ingredients and reminded herself how much she loved Erin, not Luke.
“I don’t. But if you substitute bacon, you’ll win.”

I’d like to see what’s behind door #1, thanks!

Sela said, “I think I may have snorted frosting up my nose.”
“Is that what that sound was? I thought Mrs. Witt’s pig had gotten loose.”
Sela gasped. “You did not just compare me to a pig.”
“No. I compared your snort to an oink.”
“And you’re an expert on pig sounds because?” She squared her shoulders, ready to spar with Luke until she won. He might think he could best her like he had so many times in high school, but she was older now. Wiser. Less intimidated when she wasn’t thinking how gorgeous he was.
He leaned closer. “Because I like to play dirty,” he said, his voice low, husky.
She faltered for a second, her body reacting to his nearness and words with uncharacteristic need. The more time she spent with Luke Watters, the more she couldn’t fight his pull. “Or it takes one to know one.”

Sister, snatch this man up pronto!

“You challenge me and excite me. You make me want to put down roots. You make me want to be a better man. The best man I can be. I want to be your favorite ‘good morning’ and your only ‘good night.’”

If you enjoyed Kissing the Maid of Honor for its festive wedding theme and loveable characters, check out Nora Roberts’ Bride Quartet, beginning with Vision in White.  This is a sassy, heartfelt series of stories about 4 sisters who run their own wedding planning business and one by one fall in love themselves.  The sisters are all distinctly different in personality and talents, and their men are perfect compliments for their lovely, passionate, sometimes-insecure hearts.
