Reviewer recap: Elle Olsen doesn't love her lonely life as a personal stylist in Harbor City, but she likes it a hell of a lot better than dying for a country that abandoned and betrayed her. As Elskov's only living royal, many people want to either see Princess Eloise dead (like the rest of her family) or on the throne to right the wrongs the usurpers have perpetrated over the past decade. Dominick Rasmussen lost his own family to the Fjende, and he will stop at nothing to see them avenged and Elskov's rightful ruler back in the crown...whether she likes it or not, and no matter the personal cost to either of them. When first attraction becomes fiery need and these two can't seem to stay apart, more is suddenly at stake than a simple matter of regency.

Princess story meets billionaire romance meets special forces excitement!

The story length was a bit short, and the Glock mistake was unfortunate.

Bottom Line

His Undercover Princess has all the gloss and sex appeal of a billionaire romance—the hero’s name is even Dom. How perfect a play is that?—with the twists, turns, and excitement of a romantic suspense. Weaving all of that into a strong romance with a nail-biting happily-ever-after, this book packs a smoking hot punch! I was hooked from page 1.

“So while the world thinks of you as a real-life Bruce Wayne with hundreds of millions in the bank and models draped across your arm, you’re really Batman, aligned with the Resistance, and you kidnapped me for my own good?”

“Exactly,” he said.

His Undercover Princess is fast-paced wicked fun, a book that hits the sweet spots of moderate story length, excitement and danger, and a solid emotional connection between the two saucy leads. This is a modern day princess redemption story colored with shades of two other very popular romance tropes—billionaire and special forces military—and author Avery Flynn brings together the best of all three.

Tonight, she wasn’t his queen. She was Elle Olsen, the woman he’d wanted to taste, touch, and fuck since he laid eyes on her in that sexy secretary outfit that hugged her hips and accentuated her bountiful tits. He’d flirted. She’d teased. He’d kidnapped her. She’d shot at him and tried to knee him in the balls. It wasn’t exactly relationship starter material, but that wasn’t a possibility for them anyway. No matter what it took, tomorrow he’d make sure she’d agree to be Elskov’s sovereign, and he’d be her loyal subject, but tonight, he was going to hear Elle scream out his name as she came.

There was, however, one thing that stood out as an unfortunate mistake in the story. It’s minor, but anyone who’s ever shot a Glock knows they don’t have external safeties. That’s one of the features for which that particular gun is well known. Ms. Flynn describes the princess as “a woman who knows her firearms” yet “she pushed the Glock’s safety down with a smooth stroke of her thumb.” While a Glock does have a safety—several of them internally, the most prominent one in the trigger—the shooter wouldn’t disable it with her thumb as she would on a normal hand gun. Again, a very minor mistake, but I was disappointed to see it when the rest of the story was of such high quality. Had this error come later in the book, it probably would have been less jarring and noteworthy.

Overall, I really enjoyed Elle and Dominick’s adventure. This is just the first book in the series, and I’m looking forward to the next installment and feisty new couple!
