My rating: 2 of 5 stars
After the first quarter of the book I thought this was going to be a DNF (did not finish). I started flipping through to see if it got any better, less juvenile. For about the first 2/3 it was pretty immature, in both story and writing style… shallow with little emotional depth. I thought maybe it was just the character of the male protagonist (if you can even call him that), but even the parents and grandparents came off as immature. Then, suddenly, around the 2/3 mark, everything opened up and the characters had more depth and the story more weight. If the entire book had been this way I could have given it a better score.
Not recommended. It was just “okay”, and there are plenty of other books out there that are actually worth the purchase price.
