Writing a series about eight sexy vampire males is just about the best job in the world. No kidding. Blood Spirit is the third book about one of those men, a vampire named Terek. Made a vampire in the mid-1300s by a Muslim trader when he was a monk, he’s an interesting mix of spirituality and sensuality. The beliefs he held dear when he was a human have never fully left him, but instead have blended with the natural sensuality that exists in all my vampires to create a unique vampire in the Sons of Navarus series. While Vasilije is sex personified, and Saint is very much a soul haunted by the past, Terek is quiet strength and power.

I’ve been asked where I got the idea for Terek and his past. There are two answers. First, when I began thinking about his character, I was watching the last Pirates of the Caribbean movie. That film had a character, a clergyman who fell in love with a mermaid. I found the storyline charming. The character is truly a good soul, and I think much of what I felt for him affected my ideas for Terek. As you read Blood Spirit, you see a man who at first glance may be sexy and powerful, but underneath he’s that kind soul who chose to be a monk after suffering the loss of his wife and newborn child.

The second answer requires us to go into the Wayback Machine. When I was young, I remember my mother reading a book called The Thorn Birds. While I knew little of what she was mentioning to her friends about it, I did understand how interested they were about the fact that there was a love affair between a Catholic priest and a woman. I was pretty young, but even I knew this was big. A few years later I remember my mother talking about the book again when the book was made into a mini-series, but by that time I was old enough to be busy with other things in life.

As I fleshed out the character of Terek, something of that quiet passion my mother and her friends had talked about then came out in my vampire hero. It’s not quite the same as The Thorn Birds, but those traits of devotion and passion are there in him. Who knew those conversations all those years ago I heard as I eavesdropped would have such an effect?

Thanks again for having me here today, and I hope readers will stop over at my blog to enter the Paranormal Fall Fling giveaway. There are weekly prizes and grand prizes at the end of the fling with gift cards, ebooks, and cool Sons of Navarus swag.

The Sons of Navarus series continues…

I am everything you seek. I am vampire.

Blessed with the gift of telepathy, Terek always knows what a woman wants. His gift has afforded him nightly sensual pleasures and exotic treats for centuries, but beneath the surface he yearns for much more.

Ilona can give him what his soul craves, but only if he trusts his heart. One fateful choice made out of desire puts all he cares for in danger. With a civil war and the threat of Archon hunters at every turn, this Son may lose everything if he can’t find the balance between heart and mind.

The Sons of Navarus series is one that each book builds on previous books, so none are stand alone. Look for Vampire Dreams Revamped (A Sons of Navarus Prequel), Blood Avenged (Sons of Navarus #1), and Blood Betrayed (Sons of Navarus #2)!
