Thoughts:

Rushdan definitely put a new spin on the Paranormal genre. My favorite part of reading novels is experiencing the world the author creates and this one did not let me down. While the book is mostly set in upstate New York, Rushdan creates this whole new species called Kindred and she is able to create her own world around how they operate. There is nothing more satisfying than being able to read a book and discover a new world.

Serenity is our main character in the book. While Serenity is a very independent person, she isn’t one to go out and fight all her own battles. She’s willing to help others in battle but she doesn’t go out looking for trouble. At times she could be whiney and and a little too self-centered but otherwise she was a well written character.

With Cyrus, I was hot and cold with him the entire book. At points I wanted to strangle the life out of him and at other times I wished he could just jump out of the book and be mine. Cyrus was my second favorite character out of the whole book (the first being a sub character, Abbadon).  Cyrus is just like an other Alpha male in a book but he has as many mood swings as a girl, which works really well for him as a character because I felt like I was able to relate to him a little more… well, as much as you can relate to a fictional character.

After a few chapters into the book, I felt like the book was setting up to be one of those mostly sexual scenes books, but I was happily surprised. There was sexual content and it wasn’t too much nor too little. There was a lot of tension in the book with some scenes described and others were just mentioned, which was nice because sometimes sexual scenes get repetitive. The tension definitely had me telling the characters to just hurry up and get it on!

Memorable Quotes:

If a guy said this to me, I would drag him to a court house in a jiffy.

“You are the sparkle in the moonlight and the melody in the music. I loved you before I met you, but with each day, I’m overwhelmed by how my love for you grows.”

Never garden weeds.

He had sown the seeds of her misgivings. Now thistles had sprouted between them. Her doubt was his own fault and he’d have to find a way to weed it out.

If you liked Kindred of the Fallen…

If you enjoyed Kindred of the Fallen and are looking to find another couple to fall in love with, check out Existence by Abbi Glines, a book where even Death can’t avoid love. Also take a peek at Smolder by Penelope Fletcher, a story where who you are dictates who and how you love.
