Thoughts:

Brit hasn’t gotten a Christmas tree since moving out of her childhood home, but something is drawing her to this Christmas tree lot. While walking among the trees, she runs into Isaac. The pull is stronger than ever, seeming to originate from him. Isaac knows what’s happening; knows it’s the binding, and he’s powerless against it. He just hopes he doesn’t hurt her as they both submit to their carnal urges right there in the cold amongst the trees.

For such a short story, the binding and its meaning are explained fairly well, and we get to know the characters a little, but just barely. The urgency makes the sex pretty hot, but it gets a little awkward (and turned me off a bit as I read it) when he partially changes. My biggest complaint is that references are made to things in his life and we never get answers regarding what the binding will mean for him or where they end up after their woodland tryst. But I guess that’s always the problem with the really short stories.

Final Thoughts:

All in all, at about seventeen pages, The Binding is a hot little quickie with a supernatural edge and is worth a look.

Often I’m left feeling pretty, well, unsatisfied by short stories.

Yeah, this one is worth a look for the steam factor, but the story is a little unsatisfying because we’re given questions without answers. The risk of any short story I suppose.
